Proper Cleaning of Cover

Your purchase of our premium tractor cover will provide years of added protection to your classic tractor.  However, after prolong use and/or under dusty condition your cover should be properly cleaned.   The cover fabrics can be hand or machine-washed following the guidelines listed below.  Hand cleaning is recommended for small, isolated areas.  Machine washing is a convenient method to clean an entire cover.

 Hand Cleaning

If the cover becomes soiled in a few spots, light brushing with a soft rag will remove most dirt.  For persistent soils:

1.    Wet areas with water.

2.   Mix a solution of 2 gallons or warm water (not hot) with 1 1/2 cups of non-detergent cleaner (such as Fantastik® All Purpose Cleaner) in a clean bucket.  Apply the solution with a clean, soft brush, to the contaminated area only (to minimize rinsing/drying time, try not to get the solution on the surrounding fabric).  Gently work the solution into the contaminated area.

3.    Rinse immediately, holding the hose nozzle close (2 inches) to the fabric.   Slowly rinse the area from the top to bottom in a back and forth motion.  Rinse the back of the fabric as well.  Be sure to rinse thoroughly until all the cleaning solution is removed.  A self-serve car wash jet spray may be an efficient alternative for larger areas.

4.    Let the fabric air-dry.  The fabric may be draped over your tractor or suspended from a clothesline.

5.    If the fabric easily absorbs water, as a result of a residual soap, repeat rinsing.  A second alternative is to treat the fabric with a water repellent such as Scotchguard® Fabric Protector.

 Washing Machine Cleaning

1.    Place the cover in a large automated washer without an agitator.  These machines are found in most Laundromats.  (Note:  Use of a machine with an agitator will cause unnecessary wear-and-tear on the fabric).  Also, do not use a household washing machine since these are typically not large enough to provide adequate cleaning and rinsing.

2.    Use 2 cups of non-detergent liquid cleaner for the wash cycle.

3.    Rinse and then do an extra rinse cycle to ensure that the entire cleaner is removed.

4.    Let the fabric air-dry.  The fabric may be draped over a tractor or suspended from a clothesline.

A simple cleaning method to remove light dust is to hose off the cover while on the tractor.  The cover may be turned inside out and placed on the tractor to rinse the inside.

For deeper soiled spots use foam cleaner.  Spray on and let the product work into the fabric.  Pat the area dry with a dampened cloth.  Do not rub the area as the fabric will fray.
